Sentiments/Federated Suns: Respect for a group with the military might that they have. Their view of personal freedom is admirable.

Sentiments/Lyran Commonwealth: These merchants have good gear and pay well. Given their weak military they appreciate a good warrior for hire.
Sentiments/Draconis Combine: Decent warriors, but way too uptight. Even good attributes like honor and duty can be taken too far.

Sentiments/Capellan Confederation: Actively avoid if possible. Mercs don’t do well in a police state. Though they pay well, just don’t live there.

Sentiments/Free Worlds League: Democracy is the hallmark of pirates and mercs. The Free Worlds League is too bureaucratic. However, the free enterprise and general freedoms are good.

Background

Val Kazansky (Frost) grew up on Sevon surrounded by mercenaries. In fact, his father Tom (Iceman) commanded the MMC (Miramar Mercenary Company). More a platoon than a company, the MMC consistently numbered between 25 and 35 combat members, split between mech pilots, vehicles, and dismounts. Like most small small companies, there was a lot of cross training as well.. This was enough to keep them busy with contracts protecting both Alliance Motors and Alliance Mining compounds. When they wanted an infusion of cash they would take fast strike assignments In both Draconis and Federated space.

A year ago Frost suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns across the left side of his back that wrap around to his abs just below his ribs. While it appeared to be a maintenance accident, Iceman suspected Mike Metcalff (Viper) an ambitious member of the MMC. Wanting to get Frost the best medical and protect him from Viper, Iceman sent Frost to one of the best hospital/recovery sites in the Lyran Commonwealth and told him to freelance for
a couple years to get more experience. Six months later Iceman was dead at Viper’s hands and Frost had a bounty on his head.

Frost was lucky in many ways. He has his skill, he has his mech, and Viper is bad at finances, to the price on his head is small. One day Frost will do as Viper fears and return to, with those in the MMC loyal to him and his father, take back the MMC.
